Work
to affect Miramar Blvd. traffic
MIRAMAR--
Sections of Miramar Boulevard may be reduced to one lane while the city installs new sewer pipelines beginning later this month.Residents interested in learning how the project will affect them will be
able to attend a community meeting being planned.
Brij Garg, director of the city's Public Works and Utilities Department, said
the $6.1 million project is expected to take about 10 months.
"The pipes are being installed to accommodate new development and redirect
some of the wastewater that was being sent to Hollywood's plant," Garg
said. "The pipes are going to be installed in the right of way and should
not inconvenience drivers too much."
Regina Bobo-Jackson, a representative from Gator Engineering, said three
meetings took place in December to inform residents about the construction,
potential issues and concerns, and steps the city is taking to minimize
inconvenience.
Residents from the Lakes of Miramar, The Knolls, Franklin Farms, Turtle Bay,
River Run and Riverdale were invited.
Another meeting is in the works for residents of the Avalon, Villages of
Renaissance and Trilogy communities.
Bobo-Jackson said the work would disrupt traffic on Miramar Boulevard, which is
the only access for the Turtle Bay, Riverdale and Franklin Farms developments.
"Residents will still be able to get in and out, but the road may be
reduced to one lane," Bobo-Jackson said. "For some people, those with
houses along Miramar Boulevard, it will actually require cutting their
driveways."
