Medians on Red Road get fresh landscaping in Miramar
MIRAMAR--Medians
along a portion of Red Road in Miramar soon will be sporting a more lush look.
Trees and shrubs will be added from Pembroke Road to Florida's Turnpike.
"There is no landscaping at all [now]," said Thomas Good, the city's
administrative officer. "We will be adding landscaping, trees, grass,
shrubs and brick pavers. We want to improve the aesthetic look on that
roadway."
The city
was granted $475,000 in Federal Transportation Enhancement Funds through an
agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation for the improvements on
the state-owned Red Road corridor.
The median project includes design, landscaping and irrigation, as well as the
brick pavers, for the approximately 11/2-mile stretch of roadway.
Good said the city is advertising for construction bids and seeking a 120-day
completion time.
Improvements to the medians are intended to complement the nearby Town Center,
said Gus Zambrano, the city's economic development and revitalization manager.
"When you approach the Town Center in a vehicle, you will notice the
enhanced landscape and signal enhancements," Zambrano said. "The
medians being developed will have large majestic royal palms, date palms and
large landscaping, as opposed to low-rise flowering trees and shrubbery. It will
be more enhanced, like you know you are arriving somewhere special."
The Town Center, a 54-acre site that includes a City Hall, library, shops and
restaurants, is being built south of Miramar Boulevard, west of Hiatus Road,
north of Miramar Parkway and east of Red Road.
